Shelter
A shelter is a home, a place to live and reflect on what happened to you. It is a community living environment that will serve as a transition house for a given time. The living spaces are shared with other residents and are made up of several rooms including a kitchen, a living room and a children’s playroom.
As soon as you arrive, a worker will welcome you and your children, she will introduce you to the other residents and employees and will take you to your room. In addition, you will have a dedicated counselor who will work with you throughout your stay. It will help you access other services to which you are entitled and also see to your emotional well-being. Employees are there to support you and help you regain self-confidence by focusing on your strengths and standing up for your rights.
There might be a few questions you would like to ask us. Below you will find answers to the most frequently asked ones.
Questions about our shelter
Everything is provided for you, you don’t need to bring towels, bedding etc. Just bring a few personal items: a limited amount of clothes, your medications, your important documents, and your child’s favorite toy. If you have to leave in an emergency, leave immediately! Your safety and the safety of your children is more important than any document or item of clothing.
All shelters must be structured to meet the needs of residents. There are rules regarding meal times, washing times, chores and also a nighttime curfew. We ask you to participate in household chores and to keep the living environment clean and tidy for all users of the center.
Meals are prepared in collaboration with the other residents. Domestic tasks and meal preparation are discussed and assigned within community groups.
Shelters offer short-term stays and can generally accommodate people for a period of up to two (2) months.
The youth worker will take care of your children during your meetings.
Due to space constraints and the diversity of people accommodated, it is forbidden to bring pets into the shelter. However, pets can be placed in a shelter. To this end, we have a list of resources that we make available to you.
The stay in the shelter is completely free. Likewise, all of our services are free. We simply ask that you follow the rules, keep your personal living space clean, and actively participate in group and individual sessions during your stay.

It is important to us
Children are also part of our living environment. They also have access to a youth worker. If you are a mother, you will also meet her during your stay. She will help you with your children by providing them with emotional support, social contact and involving them in stimulating activities.
Our staff come from different ethnic groups and speak several languages. French and English are the main languages of the service.
